Welcome from Mrs Myers our headteacher

A very warm welcome to our website. I am now going on my seventh year as a Head Teacher at Anstey First School. I am still extremely pleased and proud every day to be part of this wonderful little school. I am honoured to be working with such a talented and dedicated staff that always go the extra mile for our school. As a team, we are committed to our vision of ‘Be the Best You Can Be!’ and this is the foundation for all our work. It means that we have the highest expectations for nurturing children so that they are happy and successful and achieve their potential both academically and socially. We very much pride ourselves in a strong sense of community and a family feel. We know our community personally, from the children who attend our school, to their parents and families. Each of our pupils are known really well, valued and cherished for their individual abilities and attributes. We encourage our children to develop lively enquiring minds and to provide them with the opportunities to acquire knowledge and the key skills which they will need in their future life. From within the classroom to leading the School, I am a Head Teacher who passionately believes in the power of happy children. Pupils learn most effectively when they are happy, and with our focus firmly on the whole child, their whole environment, and their well-being, I truly believe we make a big difference to their outcomes.

We benefit from a very supportive governing body that really knows our school and are committed to everyone’s success. Our Governor’s are in school weekly supporting in classrooms and sharing their expertise to the great benefit of our pupils. We are lucky to also have community volunteers who come in weekly to read with our children. Our children look forward to their time reading! We also have a very active Friends of Anstey parent group that work endlessly to fund-raise and provide exciting opportunities for our children. We  raised just over £1000 at our last Anstey Fairy Festival!

Five years ago we committed to working towards making our school the best it could be and have made great progress. Our improvements include a total revamp to our Early Years indoor and outdoor classroom with a full complement of Montessori learning resources. We have refurbished the KS1 and KS2 classrooms in a natural and calming décor. We’ve added to our outdoor environment with the addition of a new ballcourt covering and added kickboards and have managed to create a new outdoor performance stage. Last year we added in a long awaited staff room. (As we have tripled in size over the years we gave up our original staff room to create more space for the children!) We are also very pleased to have revamped and redecorated Little Owls classroom with kind sponsorship by Stagestruck, a local business, who donated materials, planning and construction!  During lockdown, we used our time to build a new children's kitchen in our Early Years' Cabin and extended and improved our Forest School area. Recently, we extended our Wise Owls classroom by taking down a wall between the existing classroom and the adjacent resources room.  We are a very, very lucky little school!

I hope that our website gives you a flavour of what our wonderful school has to offer and the many events that run during the year, but it is no substitute for a visit where you can see the school in action. Visitors are always very welcome by making an appointment with the school office.

We hope to see you soon!
