Wise Owls

Welcome to Wise Owls!

Our Learning

In Wise Owls, learning is carefully planned and designed to deliver the full breadth of the national curriculum, whilst at the same time meeting the needs of the class, both as individual learners and the class as a whole.

Our lessons, sequences and topics are planned around engaging big questions, real-life experiences and challenges that inspire children to think deeply and activate pupils' curiosity.

In Year 3, we focus on the transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, building confidence and independence, securing core skills in reading, writing, mathematics and developing fluency.

In Year 4, we dive further into our accuracy in core skills, focus on the mastery of all multiplication tables up to 12x12 (in preparation for the Year 4 Multiplication Table Check), expose the children to more sophisticated reading comprehension and written composition whilst developing further independence in preparation for Year 5.

We encourage children to become resilient learners who follow our steps to success, take risks, learn from mistakes and celebrate their successes. Which allows pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to thrive both in school and beyond.

Homework

Reading

We would like all children to read at home every day.

In Wise Owls, some children are working their way through the banded Rocket Phonics Readers. Once they have finished these, they move on to the rest of the banded colours, up to Black.

After that, they are free to choose books from the reading corner. I am always excited to make recommendations!

To help support your child further with their timetables at home, we recommend the following websites:

Spellings

Each week I set spellings, teaching the rule or rules for that week. The children are given the words on a Monday and the test takes place on a Friday. Children can learn 3, 5 or all 10 of the spellings. We encourage children to challenge themselves when choosing the amount they learn each week!
