School lunchtime is a sociable occasion where children learn independence and share their good manners.  

At Anstey, children eat lunch in their classrooms. They are supervised and encouraged to chat and interact calmly before tidying their area and putting away their lunchboxes or trays. As part of our Montessori ethos, we want children to learn the importance of being responsible for our environment and this is why children clean the tables, clear up spillages and return trays and cutlery to the kitchen. We hope they will bring these skills and this mindset home and that you will see it too! 

Our school meals are provided by Herts Catering Ltd. They are prepared off-site at Roger de Clare First School, and brought to us and served by HCL cooks. 

Children choose from meat/fish, vegetarian or packed lunch options for each day of a 3-week rolling menu.

Universal Infant Free School Meals 

Children from Reception up to and including Year 2 receive free school meals known as Universal Infant Free School Meals as part of a government initiative.  

Free School Meals 

If you are eligible, your child can also obtain free school meals in Years 3 and 4  by applying for the Pupil Premium Grant using this FSM link.  Even if your child is in Reception or Years 1 or 2, and are currently receiving Universal Free School Meals, you should apply if you think you are eligible as the grant enables schools to provide a variety of additional support which may be used to help you and your child.  This includes amongst other things free school milk up to and including year 2 and help with relevant music tuition fees, travel or trips.
