Welcome from Miss Brown!

Our Learning

In our Nursery and Reception class, we provide a nurturing approach to learning, creating a safe, supportive and stimulating environment where every child feels valued and confident to explore.

We support children in developing our core values: respect, responsibility and resilience. We encourage children to build positive relationships, show kindness and consideration towards others, and take pride in caring for their learning environment. Through encouragement and support, they develop the confidence to overcome challenges and become motivated, resilient learners.

Our curriculum is built around engaging topics that inspire curiosity and excitement which we enhance using the children's current interests. By valuing children's interests and encouraging independence, we create meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, foster a love of learning and help every child reach their full potential. We provide opportunities for creative play, outdoor learning and child-led activities to help children develop their curiosity, imagination and problem-solving skills. Children are encouraged to make choices, investigate, problem-solve and develop independence through child-initiated learning and adult-led sessions.

Nursery

For many children, Nursery is the very beginning of their school journey, and we work closely with families to help children feel happy, safe and valued as they settle into our class. We take the time to get to know each child, celebrating their unique personalities, interests and experiences, while supporting them as they grow in confidence and independence. Through play, exploration and everyday experiences, children develop their curiosity, communication skills and friendships. We encourage children to share their ideas, express their feelings and learn how to play, talk and work together with others. Every day in Nursery brings new opportunities to learn, discover and grow. We provide a nurturing environment where children feel confident to explore, try new things and develop the skills and relationships that will support them throughout their school journey.

Reception

In Reception, we build on the strong foundations established in Nursery, supporting children as they grow into confident, independent learners. It is a year full of new experiences, exciting discoveries and proud achievements as children continue to develop the skills and knowledge they will use throughout their education. Throughout the year, children develop their reading, writing and mathematical skills through a range of engaging, practical activities. As well as adult-led teaching, the children have plenty of opportunities to learn through play, explore their interests and apply their learning in meaningful ways. We encourage children to ask questions, have a go, solve problems and learn from their experiences. Through outdoor adventures, creative experiences and new challenges in the classroom, children are encouraged to build confidence, develop resilience and grow in independence every day. As the year goes on, we gently prepare children for the move to Year 1, helping them become independent while ensuring they continue to enjoy learning. Our aim is for every child to leave Reception feeling happy, confident and proud of everything they have achieved.

Homework

In Fledglings, Reception children take home a reading book each day that is carefully matched to their current phonics knowledge and reading ability. Children are also provided with a reading record to share their reading experiences and celebrate their progress both at home and at school. Regular reading at home helps children build confidence, practise new skills and develop a love of books and stories.
